My name is Sheri E. Barnes, and I created PenPedalPose to share what I've learned about actively engaging my mind and body to take control of my wellness where I can. I named it after some of the tools that have made a huge difference in my life: writing and shared story (Pen), cycling (Pedal) and yoga (Pose).
Between menopause and a very difficult family mental health journey, the last several years have caused me to reevaluate almost everything and to get creative and become resourceful in transmuting pain into meaning. I’ve learned a lot about digging deep to preserve mind-body wellness.
These words from Brene’ Brown became a guiding light for me during some of the toughest times: “One day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through, and it will be someone else’s survival guide.”
My university education includes a Master of Education in Exercise Science, a Master of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, with a minor in Women’s Studies. I hold certifications in Health Coaching, Life Coaching and Academic Life Coaching. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher and have a diploma in Vegan Nutrition.
I'm a vegan, a cyclist, a yogini, a reader, a writer, and educator and a coach. My life purpose is to add value through optimizing my strengths, talents, passions, resources and experiences in the service of living and promoting my core values: compassion, excellence, integrity, wellness, resilience and presence.
My business mission is to harness the power of shared story, inspired movement, and yoga to help women define what it means to thrive and take the steps to live that vision—no matter how full, messy, or complicated life is.
I believe that we have not only the right, but the responsibility, to make the most of the gifts we have been given, and we can only do that when we take care of ourselves.
I live in Andale, Kansas with my husband; son; daughter-in-law; precious toddler grandson and my adorable cat, who makes me smile every day.
I look forward to getting to know you!
